**NEW GRANT OPPORTUNITY**
During the 2009 session of the 83rd Iowa General Assembly, a new grant program was established. This program is funded through four percent of the annual appropriation of the Iowa Power Fund.
Eligible applicants are cities, counties, non-profit organizations, organizations involved with energy efficiency or conservation efforts, and environmental organizations. The program provides grants to help these organizations and communities create local programs to save energy. The Office will consider projects in these categories: the promotion of renewable energy systems, promotion of community energy savings opportunities, the creation of community or regional energy efficiency alliances, development of a community energy savings plan, kindergarten through twelfth grade education programs, and projects that concentrate on energy efficiency public awareness campaigns.
The Office of Energy Independence will accept applications from $1,000 to $50,000 under this new program. Applicants will be asked to submit this application by the end of business November 20, 2009. |
